About me
Kathleen Johnson is a professional in the diversity equity inclusion (DEI) space with a background in film and TV who enjoyed a career in Toronto working on such productions as Suicide Squad as a makeup artist. She still contributes to projects and reviews scripts for accurate representation of diverse characters. Kathleen is an author that writes about social justice issues having just published her first solo work this year called Thinking Outside the Boardroom: Creative Solutions in Diversity Equity Inclusion and Anti-Racism and teaches the Equity in Healthcare Certificate with SFU of which she also co-created.
Kathleen was born and raised in Calgary Alberta to a Caribbean family and has a BA in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology from Carleton University, DEI certificate from Cornell University, DISM (Diversity Inclusion Service Management) certificate, and is a certified coach to artists, entrepreneurs, and executives.
She is a single, disabled mother to 5 adult children with disabilities and has overcome many battles in life being a survivor of breast cancer, abusive relationships, and poverty. Kathleen founded DEI firm Kreativ Culture Strategies and is a Senior Advisor in DEI at PHSA (Provincial Health Services Authority) in BC. Kathleen first came to BC to work at the Legislature and in 2021 she ran for federal office. She grounds much of her work in politics, creativity, and human behaviour enjoying creative engagement around difficult topics. Believing in living life to the fullest and laughter as good medicine she is an amateur comedian performing around Victoria and passionate about hip hop culture and Black history.
